A Note from Sylvie

These may be small in size—but they were created with big intention.

After surgery left me with scars, I found myself wondering:
If this is hard for me as an adult… how must a child feel?

Makiko and the Broken Pot was born from that question—my way of helping children see that their scars don’t make them less. They tell a story. They can even become something beautiful.

The Wabi Sabi Kids Journal came later, from the same heart space—a place where kids could slow down, explore who they are, and discover the beauty in their “imperfections.”

These books were created with love and intention. They’re gentle invitations to reflect, feel, and embrace what makes us whole—not in spite of what we’ve been through, but because of it.

Makiko and the Broken Pot

"It is through the process of repairing the pieces...that we begin the process of healing." Makiko is a young girl who doesn't want to visit her grandfather's house, two hours from Tokyo. He is too old and grumpy, and he doesn't allow the use of smartphones. But, after arriving, Makiko discovers a secret about her late grandmother: a broken teapot that holds a mystery to life and healing. With some gentle words from her grandfather, Makiko is determined to find the missing pieces of the pot. So, she enters the woods, where she knows the pieces are hiding. And, with the help of a three-legged fox and a blind bear, Makiko recovers the shards. MAKIKO AND THE BROKEN POT teaches the Japanese concepts of Wabi-sabi and kintsugi, embracing imperfection and discovering its beauty.
