Golden Mylk – Healing Turmeric Tonic

Adapted from a recipe by Kate O’Donnell, shared through Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health

Also known as “golden milk,” this warm, grounding tonic is a staple in the world of Ayurveda. With turmeric, ginger, coconut oil, and a pinch of pepper to activate its benefits, it’s soothing, nourishing, and wonderfully calming — especially in the evening.

If you find a full cup of milk a little heavy at night, you can use half water, half milk. I like it best when I’m winding down after a long day, especially when I’ve eaten light or come home too late for a full meal.

✧ Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole milk or almond milk

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric

  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

  • Pinch of black pepper

  • ½–1 teaspoon raw honey (optional)

✧ Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, warm the milk (or milk/water mix) uncovered over medium heat for 2–4 minutes, until you see gentle steam.

  2. Add turmeric, ginger, coconut oil, and pepper. Whisk by hand or with an immersion blender until smooth.

  3. Pour into a mug. If using, add honey to taste and stir gently.

  4. Sip slowly, preferably with soft lighting and a cozy blanket. ✨

💛 A Note from Sylvie

I first tasted this at a Kripalu retreat years ago, and it’s stayed with me ever since. It’s more than a drink — it’s a ritual. A way to return to stillness, to soothe your system, and to invite sleep with intention. I hope it brings you the same quiet comfort it brings me.
